Cookie Freeze Dessert

So, I jotted down this recipe (on a post-it) when I saw it online somewhere. So, I don't have a real name for it, so I will call it Cookie Freeze Dessert.

1 bag of Chips Ahoy chocolate chip cookies (I used the chewy version)
1 tub of Cool Whip
milk
hot fudge

Soak cookies in milk, just until slightly soggy to the touch, but still workable. Lay cookies on the bottom of 8x8' glass dish (I used a smaller 6x8" dish and I think it was perfect size). Once you have one layer of cookies on the bottom, add a layer of CoolWhip. Repeat: another layer of milk soaked cookies and Cool Whip. Crush a couple of cookies on top of 2nd Cool Whip layer and drizzle hot fudge on top. Freeze for about 24 hours.

Baby Blanket

I made this patchwork blanket for our friends who adopted a baby. Josie's nursery is pink, yellow, green and chocolate brown.

Hot Dog Cake

I first made this cake for Bunco, the second time was for a Labor Day Party for work.I took a store bought pound cake and cut out the middle part, just large enough for two Twinkies to fit. I then rounded the sides of the cake to make it look more bun-like. Insert the two Twinkies end to end inside the cake. Mix frosting (enough to cover the Twinkies) to make an orangish/brown color. I sliced the cut out section of the pound cake to make french fries, sprinkled them with black colored sugar and squeezed red frosting on them to look like ketchup. I drizzled the red and yellow frosting on the frosted Twinkies for mustard and ketchup. This is a quick make if you use the store bought pound cake.

Seashell Cupcakes

These seashell cupcakes were made for my friend, Kenyon's wedding rehearsal dinner. She had a "beach" theme and seashells were a part of her wedding ceremony.

I started by making the seashells with a candy mold and melted chocolate wafers. I used both white and milk chocolate and using a toothpick, swirled the chocolates together in the mold to make the marbled effect. I covered the cupcakes in white frosting and rolled the tops in crushed graham crackers for the sandy look. I attached the seashells with a dab of frosting so they would stick. I was very happy with the result!

Margarita Cupcakes

Fiesta anyone? The first time I made these cupcakes was for my friend, Jill's birthday. The second time I made them was for our Cinco de May celebration at Bunco.

I used a white cake mix and added a lime flavored Kool-Aid packet. After the cupcakes cooled, I frosted them with light green frosting and rolled them on their sides in green sugar. It took me a while to find lime slices, but I was able to find them at Mr. Bulky's at Ward Parkway Mall. They come pretty big, so I cut them in half. I then cut plastic straws into three pieces and added a straw to each one.

Watermelon Cake

Although the picture is messy, I had to get a picture of this cake before it was gone. I made this cake for July 4, 2008, also known as Joey's birthday (our cat)-oh! and America's!

I used Pillsbury (the best cake mixes around, I won't use anything else and they are only 88 cents at Walmart!) white cake mix and prepared as directed on the box. Then I added a packet of Kool-Aid (I tried to find Watermelon flavored, but I settled for Strawberry), any red colored Kool-Aid will work. Then added half a bag of mini chocolate chips. Cook according to the directions on the box using two 8" or two 9" pans. Cool completely. Using white frosting, remove about 1/3 of the frosting out of the tub. In the bowl of frosting, add green food coloring. Add red food coloring to the remaining 2/3 frosting in the tub. Frost the tops of the two cakes with the pink, and the sides with the green. Sprinkle mini-chocolate chips to the tops of the cakes. This will make you two cakes! The cake will also have a hint of the Kool-Aid flavor which is a fun surprise! Yum!

Graduation Cupcakes

These are the cupcakes I made for my graduation from grad school.

I cut the tops off of chocolate cupcakes and discarded (who's kidding who, I made little sandwiches out of the tops and frosting and ate them!). I turned the cupcakes upside down and frosted them with chocolate frosting. I added a chocolate covered graham cracker (store bought) to the top and a secured a piece of pull apart licorice with a dab of frosting. Voila! Mini graduation caps!

Birthday Cupcakes

These were the second "fun" cupcakes I ever made! These ladybug cupcakes I made for my mom's birthday in February 2008.

For the set of 3 ladybugs, I frosted the cupcakes in green icing. Then I piped (with a wide tip) 3 red frosting ovals. Using a small tip and chocolate frosting, I added spots and heads.

For the single ladybug, I cut the tops off of the cupcakes and cut the tops in half. I used chocolate frosting (on chocolate cupcakes) to reattach the wings to the body. I used a star tip to pipe red frosting on the wings and the spots with chocolate frosting. I used a wide tip to add a chocolate frosting head.

These pool balls I made for Brian's birthday in January 2009. I used colored sugar for all the colors. To make the stripes, I attached small pieces of wax paper to the top and bottom of the cupcakes and rolled the cupcake in the sugar to make the lines. I intended on using Necco wafers for the numbers, but I found Junior Mints Inside Outs (where the outside is milk chocolate and the outside is the white mint chocolate). I used black piping gel to write the numbers. The "chalk" is also edible, as it is two blue starburst stuck together and indented with a round tip. Then I bought a triangle to display them.

Halloween

This cupcake I made for Halloween 2008 and Bunco night.

The tombstone is a half of a Nutter Butter cookie, piped with RIP in white frosting. Crushed oreos are the dirt and add a candy corn pumpkin.

I love Halloween!

Football Cupcakes

Okay, so I know I said I was going to start this whole blog thing, so here it is, my first "real" post! The top picture are the first "fun" cupcakes I ever made. I made them for Brian's birthday in January 2008 and both sets for the Chiefs season opener in August 2008.
To make the football field cupcakes, cover the cupcake in green frosting. I took white piping gel/icing and drew the yard lines and field marker. For the flag, cut small triangles out of red fruit roll-ups and wrap around a pretzel stick. Peanut M&M's with laces drawn on are the footballs.

For the KC Arrowhead, I drew many arrowheads on a sheet of paper, then layed a sheet of wax paper over it and put them on a cookie sheet. I was able to trace the arrowhead with melted white chocolate. Refrigerate until hardened, remove and place on cupcakes. I wanted frost the cupcakes in red, but I had no red food coloring left! The KC is melted chocolate chips.

Happy Halloween!

I walked outside one evening and saw this: A daddy-long-leg crawling on my pumpkin. I thought it was too perfect!

Happy Halloween!

Halloween Treats

Ghost Cookies
I remember my mom making these when I was a kid. And they are so simple. Melt a sheet of white almond bark, dip individual Nutter Butter cookies into the melted chocolate. Immediately put mini chocolate chips on them for the eyes. And voila! Cuteness.

Pumpkin Cake
Here is a cake I made around Halloween. I took one to work and I had one for bunco. I used a yellow cake mix (Pillsbury, of course!) and baked it in a bundt pan. I spread icing on a sugar ice cream cone and rolled it in green colored sugar. I added food coloring to the remainder of the can of frosting to make an orange color, then microwaved it to make it pourable. Pour the frosting over the cooled cake and put the cone in the middle to make a stem (I put a non-icing'd cone under the icing'd one to make it stand up higher).

I think it turned out great!

I have decided to start in on this blogging craze. I enjoy cooking, baking, crafting, and photography. And that is what this blog will be about...A Spatula, a Pair of Scissors, and a Camera Lens.

Enjoy!
